I had the opportunity to work with Killing Horse Records artist Desir Decir on their first album “Mechanics”. They wanted something visual that was related to “mechanics” in the form of a person and in the form of the mechanical – but not in a literal sense. I went through some concepts including a shop sign, different ornate grid shapes, milk crates, amp mesh, and eventually landed on using back-lit bicycle gears and netting to create a abstract background for the cover. I added a starbust to the logo, and set “Mechanics” in Gotham Black with a kind of old-school yellow drop shadow. The rest of the design was pretty simple – big photo on the back, some credits on the interior. Classic.

I also created similar graphics for all their online social media needs.
